Taking the Bus (2)
Shamus and Sean had been out on the town, and had both become a
little tired and emotional. To their dismay, as they lurched to
the bus stop, they found they had missed the last bus home for their
route -- Number 36.
'What'll we do?' lamented Shamus. 'It's ten moiles to our street!'
Sean shook his head. 'I dunno,' he said gloomily. Then his face
brightened. 'Tell you what -- we're not far from the depot! Why
don't we just go and steal a Number 36 bus and drive it home?'
'Good idea!' Shamus cried, and they two weaved and staggered their
way several blocks to the bus depot.
When they got there, they began looking for a Number 36 bus.
"None on this side!' cried Sean. 'There's a 45, a 62, a 19,
a 27 and an 83. What have you got?'
'No 36 bus here, either,' said Shamus. 'There's a 101, a 14, and
a 22.'
'Oh, what will we do?' wailed Sean. 'We'll nivver get home at this
rate, no we won't.'
Shamus scratched his head. 'I know what!' he said. 'The 22 goes
our way! Let's take a 22 to the last stop, and we'll walk the three
blocks home!'
