Something New for Welsh Writers!
WE COME TO YOU! (ANYWHERE IN THE UK OR IRELAND!)

WRITING AND COMMUNICATION SERVICES

PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS PLEASE NOTE:
I work only on hard copy, therefore I will accept only hard copy or Word documents on disk or CD but note for electronic delivery, the cost of a printing cartridge must be included with your disk, an addition to the fees set out below. Packard Bell C70 cartridges cost £25 (twenty-five pounds sterling). I must be able to make notes on your work in order to complete the evaluation. Please DOUBLE space your work and use a font no smaller than 12 point Arial or Times New Roman (these are publishers' requirements as well).

WHAT WE CAN DO FOR SOLO WRITERS:

  • Typescript evaluation, including a detailed report of not less than 1000 words, dealing with style, diction, plot structure, characterisation, setting and dialogue; price includes a one-hour personal interview to discuss written report (we come to you!).
Evaluations cost a minimum of £25 up to 50pp and 50p per page thereafter. An SSAE for return is required.
To see some sample evaluations, click here.

  • One-to-one editing service: a unique service in which you get ninety minutes working with an experienced publisher's editor going through sections of your work -- opening, closing, style, plot, motivation, characterisation, dialogue and grammar.
One-to-one editing can only be done in my office. It costs £90 for 90 minutes of close work and discussion. Material for this session should be sent in advance.

  • Editing and proofreading services.
Editing, the total process of proofreading, re-writing, and checking of data, costs £2 per page, with a minimum of £30. I have editing skills in all disciplines and all kinds of work -- from government documents, reports, legislation, and other highly confidential material, through to corporate work -- proposals, grant applications, reports and summaries, and then also fiction, personal writing, academic articles, magazine articles.

  • Literary agency: we represent you to major publishers in the UK, the USA and Australia.
This service is unlike that of other agents. I charge a fee (see above) to evaluate your typescript, and only if I am excited about it do I personally contact publishers. If your work is in the class of superior quality, I make a personal representation on your behalf which gets you to the top of the editor's queue. This service is included in the cost of your evaluation! You may also use copies of the evaluation in your own approaches to commissioning editor. Shortening the waiting time is helpful, because many editors receive between 700-7000 unsolicited typescripts per month, which means some waiting! Please note, however, that I cannot and do not guarantee the publication or acceptance of any material. Nobody can.

  • Flosswyr Press: a Professional Publishing Service for authors of non-commercial works.
    For more information, click here.

WHAT WE CAN DO FOR GROUPS:

Weekend seminars:

Assemble six to ten people in your home (or hire a hall), and we do the rest! We bring you seminars which have proven successful in Australia and which have produced results for participants!

  • 'Writing Short Stories': What is narrative? How is it structured? How can I make my characters live? The art of description -- and more!

  • 'So you want to write poetry?': Different kinds of poetry ... rhyme and rhythm and metre ... strict forms ... vers libre ... what to write about ... and more!

  • 'Writing winning articles': What to write about ... how to structure a feature article ... style and modes of writing ... and more!
  • 'Get Yourself Published': a one-day seminar which begins where creative writing courses stop. Strategies to get your work to the notice of the commissioning editor! How to approach publishers as the professionals do!

  • 'Guide to Editing and Proofreading': a two-day seminar in which you learn all the skills to proofread and edit your own work.

  • 'A Guide to Self-Publishing': don't waste your money on expensive vanity presses! Learn how to do-it-yourself, producing a professional volume and a tiny fraction of the cost. Tips on: design, layout, typesetting, printing and binding, front matter, indexing).

All handouts and materials supplied. Course participants need only a writing pad and a pen. Strictly not just a talking head - lots of practical exercises are included. There's lots of fun involved as well as a serious purpose. Past groups have evaluated these courses at 6.9 on a seven-point scale, seven being high.
Reasonable fees and terms. Please email for details.
